Buzzed

Hello there,

It's almost the weekend! One more work day to go.

I'm more excited than usual about this particular Friday because Alex and I are hosting a pot luck at our place. I plan on making 3- count 'em- 3 very different dishes/goodies for the event.

Of course there'll be a full recap on Saturday.

While we did not end up going to the pumpkin patch last night, we DID munch on some good eats.

Starting with this impromptu personal pizza:

The tomato sauce used was delightfully spicy and indian-flavored:

(Thank you Trader Joe's for always being amazing)

I added the last of my shredded mozzarella, red onion, bell pepper and a sprinkle of daiya cheddar to a whole wheat pita.

The pizza was delicious, thanks in no small part to the curry sauce, but I have to say: the jury is still out on the vegan daiya cheese. I had such high hopes... I guess I should have known that no feese (fake cheese?) will ever add up to the real thing. I'll keep on using it- we'll see what happens.

After eating and watching the Giants win their third game in the series (!!!!), Alex and I took a field trip to my favorite fro yo place of all time (and this time, you get pics):

A mecca of sorts.

His and Her fro yo mixes:

Mine contained pumpkin and red velvet cake batter yogurt (which should be illegal by the way), shredded coconut and carob chips. To die for.

We came home to read a bit, suffer through 3/4 of Law and Order: Los Angeles and hit the hay.

This morning was void of any and all workouts (my rest day) and full of recipe research and planning for tomorrow night.

In addition, I purchased a plane ticket to visit my aunt and some DC friends come mid-November. ME = SUPER PUMPED!!

Breakfast was the usual:

Hemp-nola with almond milk, chia seeds and raspberries

Today also marked the re-initiation of home brewed hot coffee into my life:

(+ a little almond milk, c'est magnifique)

Is it just me or does hot coffee give you more of a buzz? Holy moly, I still can't relax my jaw. The caffeine did me right today- I got a TON of work done this morning, then moved onto a spectacular lunch:

2 Eggs + 1 Egg White Veggie Scramble (omelets are for perfectionists) with whole wheat toast and Earth Balance

The innards (ew. Too graphic?):

spinach, red bell pepper, yellow squash, red onion, fresh basil, goat cheese

First, I sauteed the onions and squash in some olive oil (I prefer those on the "done" side)

Then added the rest:

I love vegetable rainbows.

T'was glorious.

For dessert:

A cookie from yesterday, of course.

Then I had a cleansing green juice:

Now I'm off to get ready for work and hopefully make some dough (of the green variety, of course).

See you tomorrow when I'll surely be in the midst of a cooking/baking post-nutrition class frenzy!

XO

PS: A little gardening update for you.

I think the rain has blessed my potted herb garden.

Google told me a fully ripened habanero pepper would look like this:

Well, here is my little baby as of this afternoon:

Getting closer to meeting it's doom. Poor thing.

Also, some oregano I picked today:

(smells like pizza)

HOORAY for gardening success :)

  2. wear gloves when you touch that pepper! i learned that the hard way a few weeks ago. had to soak my fingers in rubbing alcohol to make the burning stop-- which btw, my fingers didn't *start* burning until like 10 hours later, it was sneaeky & insidious that way. habeneros is made of such delicious evil!
